MSMEs (micro, small and medium enterprises) play a strategic role in global and national economic development:
Globally, MSMEs make up 4 out of every 5 businesses, generate 50% of GDP, and employ 60% of the workforce (World Bank, 2024).
In Uganda, MSMEs constitute 7 out of 10 businesses, generate 51% of GDP, and employ 80% of the workforce.

Despite their potential, many MSMEs face challenges including limited access to training, inadequate financial management, poor operational practices, and difficulty accessing sustainable markets. Supporting MSMEs development is therefore critical for increasing household incomes, reducing poverty, and driving employment.

Uganda’s National Development Plan (NDP4) emphasizes MSMEs as a key strategy to accelerate economic growth, highlighting the need for targeted investments and capacity-building programs.

Our Response

ASSG — Academy for SME Support and Growth Through SQILLMATE, SENSAL has developed the Academy for MSMEs Support and Growth (ASSG) — a digital platform that empowers entrepreneurs at all stages of business development. ASSG provides simplified principles and practical tools, translated into key Ugandan local languages, ensuring that SMEs from diverse backgrounds have access to high-quality support for sustainable growth.
